Taking part in Winston's Wish Great British Brekkie event, the team had great fun making and selling cakes to Bermondsey locals.
On Friday 7th July, our team hosted a charity cake sale at Bermondsey Square antiques market. Adapting the annual ‘Great British Brekkie’ event, a range of cakes, biscuits other treats were donated by local businesses and homemade bakers, including many friends and family. After a successful day, in bright sunshine (which always helps!), the team sold out of all our ‘stock’ and raised an impressive £300 for Winston’s Wish. This is in addition to other sponsorship activities throughout the year and ongoing support of Winston’s Wish national helpline and suicide programme.
Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK, offering the widest range of practical support and guidance on bereavement to children, their families and professionals. Founded in 1992 by Julie Stokes OBE, after her work in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital’s Palliative Care Team led her to believe that the needs of children were being overlooked when a parent was dying. After visiting the USA and Canada on a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship and inspired by the services she saw, Julie decided to replicate this model of bereavement support especially for children and their families. They help over 30,000 children every year through through their helpline, numerous weekly groups, support programmes and one – to – one support services.
